Thursday Night Action at Mennen - No Upsets This Time

Two Charette Division teams competed for a final spot in the Haas Cup finals, one survived.  Charette Champion Vernon was able to defeat Parsippany Regional in overtime by a score of 5-4.  It makes sense... Both teams tied in regular season, both teams had to go to tiebreakers to determine their seed in the Haas Cup, so why not go to overtime and keep everyone waiting until 9 minutes into the OT period when Patrick Graham scored for Vernon with an assist by Steven Gay.   In the 6:15 game, Park Regional was able to finish their game off in three periods.  Lucas had a hat trick to lead Parsippany to a 7-3 win over Mt. Lakes.  In the 8:15 game, the Mennen Cup officially began when Randolph faced off against Chatham.  This was a hard fought battle between two seasoned opponents.  When it was over, Randolph held a 2-0 advantage.   Both Randolph goals were scored in the first period by Chris Holowko and William Zimmer.  Randolph will face Morristown Beard on Monday, 2/15/16 at 8:15 at Mennen Arena.     Follow this link to the Cups page of our website.

MCSSIHL News (6/9/2020)    At its End of Season Wrap-up Meeting, the League ADs made several changes to the league including the reorganization of divisional alignments, the merger of Kinnelon with Sparta/Jefferson and the addition of a team from Somerset County - Bernards HS.

Other newsworthy items include the retirement of Mennen Rink Manager, Reynold Fauci.  The League was to honor Reynold at its annual Awards Banquet that was cancelled due to COVID-19.  Instead, he was awarded a plaque thanking him for his many years of service to the League and hockey community in general.  Another long time League supporter, Dave Faleni, accepted an Assistant Principle position at Mt Olive HS and is no longer the Athletic Director.  Dave was also honored with a plaque commemorating his service to the League.  The entire League offers its thanks and congratulations to both.

Haas Cup Final at Mennen Arena

Shhhhhhh!!! The word is out.  Parity between the Haas and Charette divisions - at least among the top few teams of both divisions.  In the semifinals, we witnessed an all Haas division and all-Charette division semifinal (Park Regional vs Mt Lakes and Vernon vs Parsippany Regonal).  That would mean a guaranteed Haas vs Charette final in front of a gigantic crowd  numbering over 1100.  The game was competitive from the beginning.  Park forward Steve Agriogianis started the scoring with a breakaway goal 2:27 into the first period on a Vernon defensive mixup.  Vernon tightened up creating several scoring opportunities including a goal that was disallowed due to the goal being knocked off its moorings.  Late in the first, Park scored on a quick counter attack on a goal by Joe Caggiano with assists by Corey Lorenzi and Zach Lisewski with about a minute left in the period.  The period ended with a Park penalty and both teams taking a break in the lockers, Park with a 2-0 lead but a 9-6 deficit in shots.  The game was closer than the score indicated.
With the second period starting with a Vernon power play, the game got very interesting when Vernon forward, Patrick Graham scored a power play goal on an assist by Andy Kibelleski, to make the score 2-1 at 0:40 into the period.  Park extended their lead to 3-1 just two minutes later on a score by Lucas DeMetro (assist Justin Lerner) at 2:35 of the second period.  Vernon's hard work paid off four minutes later with another power play goal this time by Jason Bruce an assists by Patrick Graham and Steven Gay at 6:27 of the second.  This made it 3-2 Park Regional, a score that would last through the remainder of the second period.
The third period was a barn burner with another called off goal again because the goal was knocked off its moorings.  The game was close throughout.  Finally Park Regional was able put the game out of reach with 1:24 left in the game on a goal by Jordan Handler on an assist by Lucas Handler.  Park Regional was victorious with a score of 4-2.
